Funding Guidelines

Te Pae Herenga of Tāmaki (TPHoT) is dedicated to advancing the well-being of Māori communities and our people. Our funding program, Toi-Te-Huta seeks to support businesses that aspire to fuel business growth and stimulate job creation, fostering a thriving ecosystem of innovation and prosperity that empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and drives sustainable economic advancement.

Eligible applicants include registered Māori businesses that have been a viable business for over 12 months and are committed to remaining a viable and thriving business for the next 12-month period (minimum).

Funding is available for projects that are aligned with the programmes vision and must clearly demonstrate how the funds will enable your entrepreneurial growth, whilst stimulating or enabling the creation of enduring careers for our people. Priority will also be given to projects that work to preserve our culture and our language.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to present your business pitch at the Pae-Rangi Indigenous Business Summit on 29 September 2023. If selected to present, you must be available, in person, from 4pm – 5.30pm for this presentation. Successful whānau will receive funding and a comprehensive package of wrap around support to launch or grow
their business/enterprise.

Complete applications must be submitted by the stated deadline and must adhere to these guidelines.

Toi te Huta - Terms and Conditions for Funding Applications

These terms and conditions (the “Terms”) outline the rules and regulations governing the application process for
Toi Te Huta funding and wrap around support programmes (”Funding and Programmes”) provided by
Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki (”We,” “Us,” or “Our”). By submitting an application for Funding, you (”Applicant,” “You,” or “Your”) agree to abide by these Terms.

Please read these Terms carefully before submitting Your application.

1. Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria specified in the Funding guidelines provided by Us.
Applications that do not meet the eligibility requirements will not qualify for review.

2. Application Submission:

Applications must be submitted through the designated application form HERE by the specified deadline.
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

3. Application Content:

All information provided in the application must be accurate, complete, and truthful.
You are responsible for the content of Your application, and We assume no liability for any false or misleading information.

4. Intellectual Property:

Any intellectual property rights related to the application materials remain with the respective owners.
You grant Us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, and display Your application content for evaluation and promotional purposes.

5. Confidentiality:

We will treat all application materials as confidential, but We cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality.

6. Selection Process:

Our decision regarding the selection of Applicants for Funding is final and non-negotiable.
We reserve the right to request additional information or documentation during the evaluation process.

7. Funding Conditions:

You confirm that any funds received as a result of this application will be sued only for the purpose for which they were approved and that we will send copies of all invoices, and bank statements proving they have been paid. You will return any money You do not spend to Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki.
You agree to use the funds within six months of receiving them unless written approval to exceed the time limit is received from Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki.
You acknowledge that the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) may wish to audit or inspect our financials accounts and data systems. If this is to happen, You agree to provide Us with the relevant proof of expenditure to satisfy their audit requirements.

8. Reporting and Updates:

You may be required to provide progress reports or updates on the use of Funding as outlined in the Funding agreement.

9. Publicity:

You agree that We may publicize Your name, project details, and the fact that You received Funding for promotional purposes.

10. Disqualification:

We reserve the right to disqualify Applicants who violate these Terms, provide false information, or engage in any unethical or illegal activities.

11. Limited Liability:

We are not liable for any loss, damage, or injury resulting from Your participation in the application process or the Funding itself.

12. Recall of Funds for Misuse:

You agree to comply with requests from an officer of the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) or from Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki for further information regarding the receipt and use of funds received by Us.
In the event that funds provided by Us are found to be misused or misappropriated by You, We reserve the right to initiate a recall of said funds. This action may be taken to rectify the misuse or misappropriation and to protect the interests of All and the other intended beneficiaries.
If funds are recalled, You the recipient agrees to immediate restitution and legal action, if so required.

13. Modification of Terms:

We reserve the right to modify or update these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be posted on Our website.

14. Governing Law:

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with New Zealand laws. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts within Aotearoa New Zealand.

By submitting Your application for Funding, You acknowledge that You have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and are legally bound by them. If You do not agree with these Terms, You should not submit an application for Funding.

These Terms are effective as of 31 August 2023.
